An individual who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two young males who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and an older person became sick at the location in the summer month.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC stated items including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She explained the defendant continued to engage in the "treat game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.

The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson notified the police again.

She said the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
